Film: Living books

Perspective Communautaire en Santé Mentale (PCSM), the West Island Community Resource Centre (CRC) & Akshay Grover present: “Livings Books”

After over a year of research, interviews, filming, production and editing, we are proud to publish this film.

Thanks to funding from the L’Office des personnes handicapées du Québec (OPHQ), this project has succeeded in creating two films and a web guide that will allow people to better understand and navigate mental health community resources and social services.

The films and accompanying website provide information on:

  • What types of services can I receive through the CIUSSS?
  • Housing (subsidies, rights, Coops, etc.).
  • Types of therapies and how can they be accessed.
  • Social solidarity and last resort financial assistance.
  • Community resources and the types of services they offer.
  • How to exercise your rights as a citizen and participate in the democratic governance of public and community services.

This project was designed to guide people about social and community services that may be helpful to people affected by mental health disorders. This means that the web tool will be useful locally and nationally for any individual looking for information on the services that might be required to manage a mental health disorder. This process could also be used as an educational tool for new workers in mental health organizations, students in social work or another related field to mental health, etc.
